Hi and welcome to the auction of my son"s
1997 Saab 900 Convertible 2.0L Automatic (non turbo).
Sadly it is being sold for spares or repair to the highest bidder, whatever that price may be as there is no reserve.

It failed its MoT on a number of easily fixable issues but added together, it would come to more than he could afford. I could fix it but really haven"t got the time or inclination, so I"ve given him my old car and I"ve been left to sell his one. Lucky me!
Anyway, firstly there are a few positives.
When we changed cars, I drove this one 50 miles back to my place and all in all, it drives very well. Engine is smooth and powerful enough with no rattles knocks or smoke. The gearbox changes gear perfectly as it should do without any noises or complaint. I"ve only washed and polished the car but as you can see, the bodywork is in remarkably good condition for it"s age. Only a few very minor scratches, no real damage and no obvious signs of rust. Although he has only owned it since 2014, it was previously owned by my sister from 2006 and proved an amazingly reliable car for her.
Now for the issues that need attention.
As I say, it failed its MoT so here are the 9 items listed on the failure sheet
001 Brakes imbalanced across the rear axle
002 Rear brake recording little or no effort offside
003 Brake pads less than 1.5mm thick rear
004 Exhaust has major leak of exhaust gases
005 Exhaust emissions lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits
006 Tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm nearside rear
007 Tyre has ply or cords exposed offside front
008 Tyre has ply or cords exposed offside rear
009 Horn not working
As you can see, several of these failures are connected to each other so when you fix one, it"ll fix others. 001, 002 & 003 are probably caused by a sticking caliper. 004 is simply a hole near the flexible pipe and once that"s fix, will probably solve 005.
In addition to the MoT failures, there are a number of other issues you would need to bear in mind before you consider bidding.
As you can see in the photos, the electric roof works.....of a fashion. The motor that operates the tonneau cover needs a bit of a helping hand as its gear teeth are a bit worn so it jumps the cogs when lifting up. The rest of the roof mechanism is absolutely fine. Although the roof itself seems to be water tight, there does appear to be a blockage in the run-off channels at the sides as they drip water in occasionally and water drips when the roof is opened.
The passenger electric window mechanism was replaced when he got the car by myself but unfortunately we got the wrong one off EBay for a saloon so it doesn"t know when to stop when you raise it so you need to be aware of this. He bought the correct mechanism which will be supplied but we never got round to fitting it. Window does close.
It does have leather interior but this is pretty well worn and most of it has seen better days (see pic). Also heater switch is broken but heat can still be adjusted.
Petrol gauge is a bit temperamental. It works if there"s over half a tank but then drops to nothing when it goes below half. The low fuel warning light works fine though so you wont run out of fuel.
Despite the fact it drove back to mine without fault, there does appear to be signs of oil in the cooling system when I checked it. The fear is it could be head gasket but I have experienced similar symptoms when the oil cooler leaks so may worth checking that first.
Finally the SRS airbag light has come on. This has only just started to happen as it wasn"t brought up in the MoT and didn"t appear when I drove it back.
Anyway, there you have it. I"ve tried to be as honest as I can and listed everything I know, but the best way to satisfy your own opinions is to come and view it for yourself. Whatever happens, please make sure you do this before the auction ends. After that, if you"ve placed the highest bid on the car, you"ll be expected to buy it. No haggling after the event. I recommend you bring a trailer. It will drive fine but bear in mind it is sorn"d so there"s no tax or MoT on it and the exhaust is quite throaty.
