vehicle description:

Welcome to the charity auction for our unique Skoda Fabia,
This car was used for the Two Ball Banger Rally in August 2016 to raise funds for Children’s Hospice South West, a charity very close to our family. The rally involved us driving 2997 miles in 7 days through France, Italy and Spain with the longest individual day covering 1200 miles from Barcelona to Chester.
The car has a Crash Test Dummy theme to it with the black and yellow circles crudely spray painted on the side, front and rear. To complete the theme, we dressed up as Dummies for the rally.
The car has covered approximately 250000 miles although the current odometer only reads 82000. I know a bit of background of the car so please don’t let the mileage discrepancy worry you. The car was owned form new until 2006 by a lady who did mega miles. I have a service bill for the car from 2005 with 156000 miles on it. Sometime in 2006 the car started having issues with the dash pod and odometer. As such, she traded the car in with Alex Lawrie Skoda Liverpool. The Skoda dealer replaced the dash pod and odometer and kept the car as a ‘runner’. It was owned by them until April 2016 when Alex of Alex Lawrie Skoda donated it to us to do our charity rally. The car has been well looked after at the dealership and has had replacement parts when it’s needed them and an oil service and MOT before it was donated to me.
Mechanically, I can’t really fault it. It pulls like a train as you would expect the VW Group 1.9tdi engine to do. It has in the past had an engine chip which theoretically gives a 25bhp boost meaning this little car produces about 125bhp and what seems like endless torque. All this is topped off with an average MPG of 58.7 over the last 3000 miles. The route we travelled included traversing the Alps and there were motorway sections where we cruised quite happily at 85mph.
The condition of the car is about what you would expect of something that’s done 250000 miles. There are a few small dents and a couple of small rust patches. The interior is worn but certainly has loads of life left in it although it is toffee in colour. The ‘unique’ paintwork will come off with a bit of time and elbow grease, It is sprayed on with Halfords cheapest spray paint and was not primed before or lacquered afterwards.
If you would like to view the car, it’s in Helsby near Chester. You’re welcome to test drive the car, but I’ll need to see driving license and proof of insurance plus a deposit before doing so. Remember, every single penny this auction makes will go to Children’s Hospice South West to help them continue the incredible work they do supporting terminally ill children and their families.
