  We bought this about two and a half years ago when we needed to get a car quickly – we ended up liking it so much we’ve now acquired an Octavia!
In this time we’ve had 17,000 miles of utterly reliable motoring, and it returns 45 mpg on motorway runs – even fully loaded!
It’s roomy, comfortable, and has bags of load space.
It has been meticulously serviced (including valve clearances). New discs (and pads, naturally), new battery, alternator and drive belt. The timing chain and sprockets were replaced June 2014. Two new tyres January 2015.
At this moment, to the best of my knowledge, there doesn’t appear to be anything to stop it going through its next MOT without a problem.
Its bad points:
Not as economical on short journeys.
Surface rust in edges of rear wheel arches and front wings – n/s is the worst: it could be sorted with replacement panels, which cost about 120 quid altogether, if you’re feeling enthusiastic.
Starting from cold, a flat spot appears about 5 minutes in and lasts for about 30 seconds. It’s been like that all the time we’ve had the car, although I’ve tried to track it down, without success. Personally, it’s never really bothered me – you just have to drive through it.
The rear doors are difficult to open from the outside, especially o/s.
The front bumper has suffered pheasant damage, leaving it with a big dimple on the n/s.
There is slight damage to the n/s rear light cluster, but its function is unimpaired.
The stereo hasn’t worked since I changed the battery, and I don’t know its code….
The VED expires end of April (not that it"d be any use to anyone else now), so it will be SORNed
Those nice people who’ll buy any car have offered us £155.00, so bidding starts at 150.00.
