Here we have a 2004 Smart Roadster in black and red, with about 103K on the clock. It’s got all the best extras, including heated half leather seats, paddle shift, pods, electric roof and air con. I used this Car as my daily driver until recently, but even so it’s done very few miles in my ownership.
It was serviced at Smart Sport in Shepton Mallet last year, a long with having all the brake lines replaced and the necessary pads and discs etc. I basically asked them to do everything that needs doing. Smart Sport advised me that a lot of Roadsters seem to need new brake lines around the 12 year old age as the lines start to corrode, so if you’re looking at Roadsters this is something to look out for as it was quite expensive. Last week have just had new front springs and suspension struts as these are recommended to replace. So absolutely no expense spared on this Smart Roadster.
A couple of months ago I also had Smart Sport replace the alternator as this was playing up after the winter. All in all I’ve put a lot of money into getting this Car into tip top shape, as I love the Car and planned on keeping it for a while, but unfortunately I’m now in a job where I have to do a lot of motorway miles, rather than a the small commute I had of my last job. As such, I’ve bought a boring diesel and the Roadster just isn’t getting used anymore. So the Car needs a new home with someone who will enjoy the Car as much as I have.
These Cars are known for their leaks, but the roof on this Car was replaced at some point in the last few years. Unfortunately no receipts for this, but Smart Sport confirmed that the roof looks almost new when I took it in for its service last year. The roof doesn’t suffer from any leaks, leaving the only leak to be a small drip from the nearside wing mirror, and only if the Car is left out in heavy rain.
The Car had a Forge Motorsport blow off valve fitted by the previous owner, I don’t mind it personally, but if it’s not to your taste these are easily removed. (Smart Sport even offered to remove it for free when I had it serviced)
Only a couple of cosmetic bad points worth mentioning, the paintwork has a small amount of bubbling on the bonnet, and the odd scratch here and there as you would expect of a Car of this age. As well as this, the wheels were at some point painted rather poorly by the previous owner in a not very pleasant matte black, so the wheels could do with a refurb, but I never got round to this.
Other than the above the Car is more-or-less standard minus the badges. The in Car entertainment is all standard, with the addition of an AUX cable. The Car had the updated air-con pipes fitted, as the originals on these are prone to cracking, but it does need a new air-con belt. I never bothered as Smart Sport advised not having it actually makes the Car more economical and seeing as the Car is a convertible, I never felt the need for the air-con. Obviously this is cheap to sort if you decided you wanted to.
