vehicle description:
Subaru Legacy, 2.0 AWD, LPG, 6months mot, 133k, 1 previous owner.
I bought this car late last august last year to get me through the winter.
It"s the 2litre petrol Legacy with an LPG conversion fitted. The lpg tank is in the spare wheel well and is a fairly large capacity 80 litres, this means it actually takes about 60litres. I get between 250-300 miles between fill ups and pay 54pence per litre.
The four wheel drive system works properly in both high and low. I pulled a friends van out of some quite deep mud a few months back and was surprised at how easily it did it.
The car is in a clean and presentable condition. There were no concerns regarding corrosion at the last MOT. The tyres are all good. It has a tow bar with single electrics, the original load cover for the boot space and the original roof rack. The car starts and drives well. I was told by the previous owner that the timing belt was replaced at 120k. I have removed a cover and inspected the belt and I have no reason to doubt this. I fitted a new battery back in September. I have changed oil and filter, which was nice and clean anyway. Again, the previous owner assured me he had been regularly servicing the car.
Bad points. The LPG system takes a bit of getting used to. The car is happier starting and running on petrol for a few minutes. If you do start on LPG, it"ll take a few minutes before it"ll tick over. Once warm she runs fine on gas, however there is a tendency to backfire sometimes. Maybe someone who knows their way around gas systems could tune it, but I"ve done 5000 miles since September in it no problem. It does run absolutely fine on petrol too.
Sometimes on start up there is a puff of smoke. This is rare and when the car has been parked on a camber with a hot engine. This is common on these Subaru boxer engines.
The car has been touched up here and there, where it has had some knock and scrapes. There"s a small crack in the rear bumper. The original air box is absent, replaced with a K&N type filter. The heat shields rattle a bit on the exhaust system, there"s loads of them!!!
Please remember it"s 18 years old don"t expect a new car, but in my opinion it has aged very well.
The car is in Caerphilly, near Cardiff, South Wales. It"ll be cash on collection.
