When the 390SE was first launched it’s alleged that the

John Eales was brought in to achieve the same level of performance without some
of the “eccentricities” of the Rouse lump such as a healthy oil consumption.
This is a John Eales engined car (JE1067)
The SEAC tail is non standard but was fitted in 1990 – the invoice
from TVR Engineering in Blackpool shows the princely sum of £341.55 was paid
for it!

I have owned this car 2 years and completed less than 100
miles in it. When I bought it unbeknownst to me the ignition amp was failing
causing a misfire. In attempting to track the fault I made the situation worse
with a scatter gun approach and toasted the ECU by resoldering it. There is a
fantastic forum full of support and good advice but it can be confusing when
everyone has their own theories to know what is best to do. I made some bad
choices! You need to stick to your own guns or just listen to one person only and
progress things in a structured way.
I fell out of love with the car pretty quickly and it has
basically sat under its cover for the last year and a half. Anyone will tell
you they don’t like being stood. I have had a couple of periods of heavy
activity to get it up and running again which resulted in the injectors being
serviced and the ECU rebuilt. It starts on the button and drives but it does
feel like its hesitating/holding back at higher revs. Compression check was
spot on. When we checked the spark it wasn’t great and wouldn’t jump anything
like 10mm – I have a new Bosch coil but made no odds – a weak spark will break
down under load and it could well be this that’s the problem – if I was going
to continue testing I’d stick a permanent live to coil to see what happens. The
dizzy has brand new genuine Lucas ignition amp. Frankly though I’ve had enough!
The MOT ran out last month. Sounds healthy though as you will see from the
video - listen to the pops and bangs after lifting off - classic flapper injection wedge!:

I will put the car through MOT this week and see where we
