I bought this car in 2008 with the intention of fitting my new 4.6 V8. This quickly turned into a full body-off rebuild.
The chassis and suspension parts were stripped, dipped at SPL (Surface Processing Ltd, West Mids), Galvanised and then painted gray.
Reassembly included new poly bushes, new Gaz Gold Pro coil overs, refurbished calipers, new hydraulics, new brake lines etc. Check out the build pics!
I had the chassis corner weighted at Neil Garner’s near Swindon, so it sits perfectly and handles just brilliantly, steering on the throttle is rewarding and predictable.
I bought the 4.6 V8 for another project new, NOT refurbed, brand new. Even today it has only done about 6,000 miles from new and was stripped and checked prior to going into the TVR by Steve Baker (Chosen Engineering).
The engine produces about 290bhp (this is a real number, it is more powerful than any regular 500 Chimaera or Griffith and the slightly shorter throw 4.6 crank means it revs way more freely). It has Real Steel stage 2.5 heads, ARP studs, Typhoon cam, heavy duty rocker shaft and rockers, double valve springs, 4 bolt mains etc.
The pre cats have been removed, injectors cleaned and so running is ultra reliable and smooth with a really neatly fitted MegaSquirt MS2 fuel and spark setup. I had the loom made for this rather than risk the DIY approach and as I say, it’s super reliable and drives really well. Please, come and check the car out, I’ll happily take you on a decent test drive.
The 5 speed T5 gearbox is good, it has a brand new clutch, new engine mounts, new fuel hoses, new track rod ends etc., silicon hoses, stainless cooling pipes, a new heater matrix AND fan … the list goes on.
The body and interior are average, and this is why I’m not asking £15-£20k! There are some blemishes and one seat is a little torn, but despite showing it’s age it’s perfectly presentable and not many people can drive around in a TVR Chimaera absolutely CERTAIN that the chassis they have which LOOKS OK isn’t harbouring hidden rot.
Apologies that the pictures are dull, I will get some more once it"s had a clean and polish.
If you are looking for a TVR Chimaera then at almost any price finding one which is GUARANTEED not to have rot starting (or worse, advanced) in the out riggers is really rare.
This car has covered only about 3,000 miles since it’s chassis was fully refurbished and galvanised so you KNOW it will be good for, well, longer than you will!
Reason for sale is simply that I have had it for several years and fancy a change.
