I present my absolutely superb TVR Griffith 500 with only 27,500
miles!.
I bought her from a chap in the Midlands who lost interest
(he has a 997 Turbo to play with) and she needed a few small things doing. The
car was parked up between 2004 and 2008 due to a previous owner moving to
Canada for 3 years then sadly falling ill. When I received the car I fixed, or
had fixed all the small things that needed doing. I’m a perfectionist.
The previous owner had the interior re-trimmed in tan
leather as far as the dash – which was black vinyl. I removed the dash and sent
it off to be re-upholstered in matching leather. Before I put the dash back I
replaced the steel dash facia with a new walnut one, and replaced all bulbs and
some of the switches whilst I was there just to be safe. I also wanted the car to look as original as
possible.
The interior is pretty much as new – as you can see in the photos.
High end audio system – I genuinely don’t think you can do
better in a TVR. One of the previous
owners had fitted two 8” subs in the rear which were dead, as was the amp he
installed. I’m into my high quality audio (I"m 52, not 25 :-) ) so I started from scratch. I needed
to fill the holes left by the 8” subs so I fitted 3-way speakers (which I have
used subtle black grills for so they blend in). These are powered by their own
Sony Amp. In the front there are competition Kenwood separate speakers –
mid/sub and tweeter. They again have their own Kenwood amp. Under the driver’s
seat is a Kenwood powered/active sub – this is the only way you can feel proper
low frequencies with the roof down. It is all unobtrusive and invisible with
the seats back. The head unit is subtle but superb and the windscreen DAB
antenna works perfectly.
The cabin heater blower failed the day I bought her so I
removed and replaced with new. A nightmare job, but it’s done! Took me a couple
of days.
I fitted Leven stalks, and handbrake lever.
I inspected the chassis, which only had very mild surface
rust in a couple of places. Sanded it back to metal, treated, primed , painted,
and applied clear waxoyl. She’s barely done 10 wet miles since then (last
year’s MOT – had no choice!).
Everything under the bonnet is as it should be. Serviced annually. I’m not one
for blue water pipes and engine polishing.
The Targa was showing signs of wear so I had that
re-trimmed, and then last year I had the entire folding roof fabric replaced –
custom made and fitted to the car at the trimmers – so a perfect fit. I went
with the slightly larger rear window so the roof folds down almost completely
flat (unlike the original design which still sticks up enough to obscure your rear vision when down). You can also see behind you with the roof up!.
I had a Sigma alarm fitted - top of the range and the remote
also opens the boot – that cost £600 fitted. Full microwave sensors so you can
arm the alarm with the roof down and it’ll sense if someone puts their hand
inside, but no false alarms.
She is summer use only – you can check the SORN history – Sorn’d every October
until March – NEVER driven in the wet (I have other cars for that). Always
garaged. I use her all the time as my daily driver in the summer (you can see the
mileage climb as soon as I bought her from 2017 onwards) so she is well “shaken down”– anything that
was a niggle has been sorted – engine is smooth and brutal, idles perfectly, no
shunting at all, no overheating (I’ve had zero issues with the mechanics since
purchase – all the fettling I’ve done is interior stuff). She has behaved
perfectly since I bought her in 2017. I take her to TVRSW (Big Col) for a
service each year – the garage is about 3 miles from me (rather lucky!). You
can call TVRSW and I’m sure they will tell you anything you need to know about
the car. If Col said replace something, I told him to go ahead.
She is an absolute joy to drive.
This is genuinely a hard thing to do. I have not loved a car
so much before, and I’ve tried all sorts of things! From a 996, to Westfields.
The car is such a complete package. Beautiful, amazing to drive, wonderful
sound, reliable, an “event” every single time you take her out, and people are
nice to you rather than envious (I now have an R8 V10 and I can tell you that
the attitude changes drastically!). I just can’t justify keeping so many cars
and I don’t want her sitting in my spare garage gathering dust.
Paintwork is original from what I can tell. Some stone chips
which have been touched up with the correct paint – normal for her age – but
remarkably good condition overall. I have just run over her with clay, then 2
stage Meguires cut and polish and she looks amazing.
An opportunity to buy a great low mileage example of the
Griff 500 with no work needed whatsoever and won’t present “issues” the moment
you start using her.
Comes with two sets of keys, two alarm fobs, Original TVR handbook
and binder, TVR Bible, roof bag, tyre repair kit.
Original reg is M3 STK. You can keep the private plate if you like.
No PX thanks.
