The time has come for Gertie the Golf to find a new home. She"s been - and still is - a cracking car. Fitted with the 130hp TDi engine coupled to a tiptronic gearbox she"s no slouch in traffic but her thrifty engine will return 50 mpg on a steady motorway trot at 70. Coupled with five comfortable seats and an estate body with split rear seating she"s enormously practical too. I bought her rather than a normal Golf as all that glass at the rear makes her easier to park. She"s been well looked after with a regular service pattern by first a main dealer then a non-franchised dealer and for the last three services me. She"s just had an oil and filter change as well as a new air filter. She"s had a new cam belt fitted with the associated pulley and water pump replacement as per VW servicing schedule. Her tyres are good for thousands of miles yet. The last MOT brought up a couple of minor advisories but the work required - I have the receipts - has been done at a Volkswagen main dealer workshop. Now, Gertie is a shade over twelve years of age so she"s got a couple of marks here and there but no dents or scrapes/scratches of a serious nature on her body. Everything on her works as it should and she drives beautifully with no rattles or squeaks which - given that she was built with ruthless German efficiency - is what would be expected of her.
As a small aside her (unused) spare wheel is a proper job, non of this supermodel skinniness for Gertie!
She has roof rails fitted and the (non-VW) cross bars will be included in the sale.
If she"s so wonderful why am I selling her? Seemples, I cannot afford to run two cars anymore and Gertie, being the older of my two cars, has to (sniff) go.
