For sale is my blue metallic Volkswagen Polo S 1.9 SDI. This is the S model with electric windows, alarm central locking and electric mirrors. Has 10 months MOT and is currently being driven daily, so the mileage will go up slightly. It flew through it"s last MOT without any advisories.
This is a great little everyday car, and is really easy to drive with nice light power steering, clutch and gears.
Being the 1.9 diesel it does 50-60mpg easily on my journey to work and pottering around town. Would be even higher mpg on longer motorway runs. As it"s the SDI, not TDI model, it is a very simple, cheap to maintain engine with very little to go wrong. It is also very under-stressed so will keep going forever if well serviced.
Car has done 155,000 miles but as it has done mainly motorway miles by previous owner and been well maintained, it still has loads of life left. The main high mileage issue with these cars is the gearbox, which is why the previous owner sold it to me. They tend to fail after 120,000. 12 months ago I bought a good low mileage gearbox and swapped it, and it"s been perfect ever since, so shouldn"t be anything to worry about for quite a while!
Mechanically the car is very good, and in the last year I have replaced the following which were starting to go:
- gearbox replacement with good quality oil
- new shock absorber
- 2 rear wheel bearings
- Alternator clutch pulley
- Air filter
- I have also cleaned out all of the EGR/intake system which gets clogged up on higher mileage diesels.
Before I bought the car I know the previous owner (current friend of mine) had a new clutch fitted and a full exhaust.
Paintwork is very good for the age of the car, but obviously does have the odd mark here and there. There are a couple of blemishes in the paint as you can see in the pictures, and a few parking scuffs on the bumper. The worst is a small crack which I have taken a picture of - see pic. Underneath is still very good and rust free as you would expect for a VW.
The interior has signs on wear, as you would expect for a 15 year old car. A few of the plastic parts are scuffed/cracked as you can see from the pics. The stereo has CD and MP3/phone connection and sounds surprisingly good. The radio doesn"t pickup any stations recently though, this could be the stereo or the aerial, I"ve not had chance to look into it though. These are parts that could swapped easily, but they"ve never really bothered me. I"ve always focused on keeping the car mechanically sound and reliable.
Any views, and test drives welcome. It"s a great little car that has been extremely reliable, and cheap to run while my classic mini was off the road, but as my mini will be finished soon, it needs to go to a new home. It"s a great town car and also great on long journeys, we take it on a 400 mile round trip to Bournemouth occasionally without issues.
