vehicle description:

I"ve used this car as a workhorse/ family vehicle for the last 4 years, so obviously the interior/ boot will reflect that. The outside needs a wash, and the interior could do with a valet. I bought it when it was on 48k and due to owning a caravan which is sited down south ( car never used for towing) I"ve done countless trips down to devon and back, so most of the miles are motorway miles. It"s never let me down, and I"d confidently jump in it and drive to lands end and back. My dad was a Rover/mg mechanic for 40 yrs, so he has done a lot of the maintenance on it for me, including regular oil/ filters, clutch and cam belt last year. The car does have some issues which normally he would have done for me, but due to age and ill health I don"t want to ask him. These are as follows:
It can struggle to start( especially on very cold mornings), and produces a bit of white/ grey smoke......but it always does start (possibly the fuel injection pump may be slightly out and need timing correctly or glow plugs????). Once it"s been started, it starts quite easily all day long.
The heater only blows hot and not cold. This has happened ever since I removed the heater control unit, so I simply may not have put it back correctly.
The heater only blows on 3 and 4.....which I"m sure is just the resistor ( located behind glovebox and about a tenner). I"ve repaired it once, but never got round to doing it again.
Needs the power steering fluid topping up every couple of months ( just a bit required, my old Rover 420 was the same).
I replaced the mass airflow sensor last year, but only purchased a cheap Mickey Mouse one off eBay for about £20. It was fine for a few months, and then felt abit sluggish. I did some research and found out these cheap air flow sensors are a total waste of money, so I pulled out the plug and car runs a lot better with it disconnected so that"s how I"ve been using it.
An old lady kindly caught my front bumper whilst pulling into an asda car parking space next to me. She scuffed the bumper slightly, which pushed the front wing in about 2mm ( No damage to the actual wing itself, and bumper only scuffed ). It"s hardly noticeable, and doesn"t cause any problems at all, but due to garage labour charges and the age of the car my insurance company decided it was beyond economical repair. It doesn"t take much to write off an old car due to the labour charges, so amazingly this car is now classed as a cat D.
So now for the good bits:
Cam belt done last year ( receipt is somewhere, but I"ve moved house since. I will try to find it).
Clutch done last year ( will try to find receipt).
Amazing mpg, especially on motorway. 45 mpg round town easy if you drive it right.
Cheap tax, £79 for 6 months.
112k (mostly motorway).
Original Rover alloys/ boot spoiler.
Recent exhaust back box.
Oil/ filters regularly changed (not this year though).
Mot till November 2016 ( only advisories on last mot was the exhaust back box, which has been done. Car has only done 3k since mot was done).
So I"ve been as honest as I can. It"s been used as a workhorse, and it shows. It does have its issues, so you may have to spend a little on it to get it right. It will need some tidying as well, but it has easily been the most reliable and economical car I have ever owned.
I would have probably kept it and spent a bit getting it right, but due to 3 kids a dog and possible future towing requirements I"ve bought an old Volvo v70 estate instead, as this also suits my self employment load carrying needs.
Cash on collection is preferred.
COLLECTION ONLY. The car is SORN, so you will need to take this into consideration when arranging to collect the car.
Viewing is welcome before the end of the auction if you wish. I have been totally honest with my description and my photos so please make sure you have read the add very carefully.Any questions please ask or ring me on 07535717411
