You are bidding on a 1978 TVR Taimar. This is the Martin Lilley-era 300M shape but with the added benefit of a hatchback for easy luggage access. The car had been owned for 21 years by the same person and has had little use last 5 years, just driven to its annual MOT and back. The last MOT was on 7.10.15 at a mileage of 81037. The car was bought from David Gerald the Worcestershire based TVR dealer in Jan 1995 who Stage 2 tuned it: cam balanced, oil cooler, Kenlowe electric fans. Prior to that it had 3 owners which I think included the original dealer who sold it new so in effect 2 owners over the first 16 years and one for the next 21. At 80310 miles the previous owner spent £2900 with David Gerald on new springs and dampers, new fuel pipes, heater and radiator hoses, new exhaust and battery and a full service. Last month I had a new radio/CD, speakers and aerial fitted and some electrical work to ensure everything worked properly.
The car is fitted with unleaded heads and electronic ignition. It had a new heater matrix in 2014 and runs on good tyres but fatter than original (185HR14). It doesn’t leak oil and the engine is very sweet. Bearing in mind it is 37 years old it drives well and I drove it 210 miles after buying it and it didn’t miss a beat, returning nearly 30 mpg when cruising at 3000 revs (67 mph). Bodily the car is very good with few paintwork blemishes; it looks stunning! The interior wasn’t up to the standard of the rest of the car so I had a local leather expert bring the seats up to standard and it now looks very good. The tan carpet is good for the most part except for the driver’s floor. I bought a roll of caramel carpet to make a new driver’s floor mat. In all I have spent £1000 on the car.
I came by the car as it was owned by the friend of a friend who was leaving to live in France. His garage had offered him a low price to take it away and my friend persuaded me to buy it and give it a good home. To be honest my wife was not best pleased as I already had an MGA and a Ginetta G21S as well as 2 veteran cars. I then went and bought another veteran at the Bonham’s London to Brighton auction so the TVR has to go! Whoever buys it will be delighted and the car will benefit by being used.
