vehicle description:

Jeep Cherokee XJ 4.0 LTD Converted to LPG (Automatic)
I’ll be sad to see this Jeep sold, but I’ve just unexpectedly upgraded to a newer Jeep.
It’s an 18 year old rugged 4x4 and for it’s age it is in good condition, but old Jeeps are a bit quirky, please have a read up on these cars before wasting mine, or your own time....it drives like an old Jeep/Land-Rover type vehicle, not a modern estate car...but then you can"t drive a Volvo up a quarry !
You can insure it on a classic car policy if it’s a second car. Road tax is £235 per year. There is a great club following, spares are readily available and cheap, as are tuning/lifting and other hooligan kits. They are very capable off-road.
It is the Limited version, with the bullet-proof 4.0 litre cast Iron engine. It is quite well equipped for its age. Full Leather (all in good order), cruise control, radio-cassette (remember those), electronically operated seats (all working), trip/fuel computer, roof rails, tinted glass, headrests, infinity sound system (although if this is the premium system, I’d hate to hear the basic one). There is a 6 CD changer in the boot.
The MOT is until October 16th 2017 (I took it in last month as soon as it could be renewed, so it had a 13month MOT)
She runs really well. It’s in my name, sold from my address. We are 5 minutes from Jct12 M1, and close to Harlington Station (Thameslink).
It has been a third car, bought just to get us around in the winter of 2012, but became so useful we never got rid of it.
It is a basic tough old Jeep…if you are reading this you probably know what you are looking at so here is the important stuff.
176,000 miles…..I have done about 30,000 of those.
I have done oil/filter changes (inc diffs) and continuously greased the many grease points, along with new spark plugs/air filter and other service parts.
It had new Discs/Pads less than 6k miles ago, and recently new front brake calliper. From memory I put a new exhaust on it 2 years ago.
I have fitted a new crank position sensor (preventative maintenance) and generally looked after the old girl.
I’ve fitted a few other s/h parts along the way…electric seat motors, window regulator, door switches and probably a few things I have forgotten
She’s a little battle scarred, with scrapes here and there (please see the photos) but nothing major, or that detracts from an almost 20 year old Jeep.
It has 4 very good tyres (see photo’s). The LPG tank is an underslung 50L, and sits next to a modified petrol tank, which holds about 30 litres. I believe this was a common conversion in its day. I have replaced some piping to the tank, and the solenoid on the tank. LPG works really well on this car, although the gauge isn"t accurate. I just use the trip meter.
RE MPG I reckon on THE EQUIVALENT of 25/30 MPG urban/motorway when on gas. Locally I am paying 48p per litre for gas. A tankful will get you around 200 miles.
There is a tow-bar fitted, although I’ve never used it, and the electrics need connecting up.
Most importantly for any prospective XJ buyer, it has had a load of welding done. Both sills/inner-sills to floor/ rear inner wheel-arches etc are all solid as anything.
I believe the rear springs were done not long before I got it, so it sits really well……no saggy rear end !
I have some early history, including the gas conversion certificate, and the handbooks etc.
BAD BITS
The rear wiper stopped working a while ago….I think it’s in the tailgate wiring, but I could never find it (motor works if you stick 12v on it), also the central locking doesn’t always activate the rear boot lock…(you can always use a key so never locked in/out)
Air-con has never worked, and I’ve never investigated it. There is a small crack on the side of the Windscreen. It’s been like this for 2 years (and 2 MOT’s) and hasn’t got any worse.
I’ve fitted a few other second hand parts along the way…electric seat motors, window regulator, door switches and probably a few things I have forgotten.
I’m open to sensible and polite offers, I’m not in a rush….it has loads of MOT on it, and if we get snow this winter I’ll easily be able to add £250 to the value.
It is an old car, and as such may have other faults not know to me.....it is sold as seen, no warranty implied or given, happy to help with delivery, pick up from station etc.
No time-wasters please (you know who you are)...all others please contact me for more pictures, any questions etc.
Cash on collection, or BACS payment (Jeep released once cleared).
