For sale my stunning 1997 Lotus Elise S1
This is undoubtedly one of the best maintained Elise S1s in the country. I have a 4 inch thick stack of receipts with at least £1000 spent every year to keep it tip-top.
Engine, brakes and Suspension:
The stunning K-Series 1800 engine is at its very best when powering a Lotus Elise. A previous owner replaced the engine at 95,000 miles with a 22,000 mile donor from an S2 Elise. Since then it"s been improved until how it is today. Perfection for an S1 Elise, comes in the form of Sport 135 cams, 52mm Throttle Body, a K&N air filter and a Larini stainless steel exhaust system. The perfect balance of power, and driveability means this car will never fail to put a smile on your face, but is easy to drive around town, and doesn’t drone on the motorway. A truly amazing feat!
I’ve coupled this with the Bilstein suspension upgrade (as offered by Lotus), to give the car perfect road manners. This isn’t set up as a track weapon, but glides down country lanes and keeps the brand new Yokohama Ad08R tires glued to the tarmac. The to make sure everything comes to a timely halt, I’ve replaced the discs with EBC turbo groove discs, EBC green stuff pads and braided hoses from EliseParts.

Bodywork & Exterior & Interior:
The S1 Elise is a simple car that lets you fall in love with driving. This car in Calypso Red looks stunning and has little in the way to distract you from the pleasure of driving. That said, the interior is one of the nicest places to be on the road. The S2 Exige probax seats hold you securely, but cushion in all the right places. I’ve done a 1000 miles in one day in this car, and jumped out without an ache.
I’ve removed the stereo, but the wiring and speakers are still in place should somebody wish to put one back in (upgraded speakers as the original ones were awful!). However, I wouldn’t want to detract from the amazing noise of the exhaust.
The exterior is in great condition for a car of its age. There are quite a few stone chips around the front, but this car is meant to be driven, although it wouldn’t take much to touch them in. The soft top was reconditioned by Allon White in 2013 and they’ve done an amazing job, and the roof is water tight in the heaviest of storms.

Summary:
Please don"t be put off my the mileage/owners of this car. The car overall has had vast amount of recent maintenance, the engine has only covered 69,000 miles and the top end had a major overall in 2013. There are plenty of low mileage "garage queens" out there which are storing up big problems, this car has continually had all the important work done. The Exige seats are incredibly sought-after (last week I was offered £1900 for the seats alone) however they really "complete" the car.
I bought this car from my friend who had owned it for 6 years before I bought it, this is why I knew I was buying a quality example. Reluctant sale due to needing to downsize from 2 cars to a single fun/practical car.
