The car was registered with dvla on Jan 1976 but through lots of detective work and emails to Mercedes head office in Germany I have found out that the car was built in Nov 1975 Mercedes Germany have sent us a copy of the job card/date card, please see photo below of the data id card, so once the new owner taxes the vehicle the tax class should be changed to historic vehicle/tax exempt please see the link below with all the information needed.

The Mercedes-Benz W114 and W115 models were designed by French auto designer Paul Bracq and were first introduced in 1968 and ran through until 1976 when they were replaced with the W123 series. They were all distinguished by names relating to their engine size and Mercedes also launched its first 5-cylinder Diesel Engine (OM617) in this car.

The Mercedes-Benz W115 is known to be a very durable car and in 2004, a Greek taxi driver donated his 1976 Mercedes-Benz 240D to the Mercedes-Benz Museum with 4.6 Million Kilometers on the odometer, which is recognized as the Mercedes-Benz with the highest recorded mileage known to date.
