I`m a serial and multiple ELAN owner and long time Club Lotus member, no mechanical whizz, but I do know what`s what with ELANs. A friend asked me to help her friend sell her late husband`s pride and joy which she kept for sentimental reasons and it`s now here, at our house in Foolow Derbyshire, about 35 mins. from J29 of the M1, just waiting for you to come and inspect.
When it arrived I made a crummy video with my pocket Olympus and posted it on youtube; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuWG-HW1Y04 which tells you all about it, well nearly all. Since then I`ve been having a right good fettle and it looks quite smart now but for the deficiencies mentioned. The adjustable front suspension was set at the lowest so I`ve raised it 20mm. I`ve tidied the wheels and given it a good clean. For some reason (?) the battery is mounted in the spare wheel well and there`s no spare wheel, and the air filter canister is missing, I see. Also the petrol filler cap is non-standard, on the other hand it does have a workshop manual and the rare Sprint handbook. The interior is really good and the paintwork basically fine, but for the areas mentioned.
I`ve removed the airbox as you can see in the pic. to investigate the leak and any damage which looks minimal and I can`t find the leak. I disconnected the coil to try turning the engine over on the key but nothing happens, not even a click, so I wonder if the solenoid is damaged as the wiring all looks OK.
The owner says there`s no known issues and the engine has been run occasionally. She wants just to sell the car as it is, fair enough, but if it were mine I`d get it up, running and MOT`d, the paintwork done and be expecting well over £30k.
