Often referred to as one of the best car ever made by Mercedes the
500 SEC was the flagship vehicle to bear the S-Class name referring to
Sonderklasse or special class.  S-class model, took the world"s
motoring press by storm when it was launched and it remained the
yard-stick by which all other luxury cars were judged, throughout the
1980s. The technology it brought made Jaguars and BMWs of the day
seem like yesterday"s cars. Both companies were forced to go back to
their drawing boards and their 1980s cars eventually caught up with the
technology-showcase Mercedes.
The SEC is the coupe version of W126 S-class, which is probably the best
S-class of all time, it delivers a strong sense of quality and solidity. Its
wide front grille with a prominent three-pointed star logo has real
presence. On the other hand, it introduced some Italian flavors by means
of subtly flowing waist lines and C-pillars, frameless windows and the
lack of B-pillars. It is this blend of Germanic quality and Italian artistry
made the design so attractive, and so unique among Mercedes-Benz
coupes.
The durability of these cars is legendary and it"s unlikely that an S-class
will cause you lost sleep over the possibility of it wearing out.
Mechanically, these cars are all very strong; The 500 SEC engines are
always built soundly as are the gearboxes. Bullet-proof reliability,
tasteful and roomy interior. All these factors have made it a future must
have classic for any serious collector.
Once the standard by which all luxury cars were judged and still takes
some beating, for its age. If you want a big, roomy, strong luxury car
