For sale very regrettably is my cherished 1998 TVR 400. I have owned the car for 5 years and it has been a pleasure to own and totally reliable. I have owned many TVRs over the years and they famously overheat, fail to start when hot and leak. Mine does none of these! The car has been garaged all its life and has rarely seen rain. It has a perfect service history and has been maintained regardless of cost. The car has not been used this year and is currently SORN, the MOT expires at the end of Feb 2017. Low mileage of 48,230.
Finished in Giallo Fly (Ferrari) yellow with black half hide, black carpets trimmed back, aluminium factory option dash and optional black dials it still looks very modern.
The car is a totally original and unmolested example of this appreciating classic. Apart from the tyres (originals no longer available) and high performance HT leads, everything on the car is original. This includes the original Pioneer face off radio/cassette (with original case) with optional 6 CD changer in the boot. Also present is the original tool kit, hood bag, handbook/service book and unused space saver spare wheel.
I have added alloy Leven Technology stalks, steering column adjuster, handbrake and front air vents which look great and compliment the alloy dash but I do have the original plastic items too. There is also an optimate connector in the front passenger footwell as I keep the car on trickle charge when not in use.
The bodywork is original, unmarked and looks stunning. There are a few tiny stone chips on the nose but these are virtually invisible as the primer underneath is white.The wheels are in great condition with only a couple of very minor scuffs, the spare has never been used. The windscreen has no delamination whatsoever and this can be a problem with TVRs of this age. The black hood is original, leak free and in great condition. During my ownership it has been cleaned and re-weatherproofed every year and the rear screen was replaced 2 years ago so is totally scratch free. The interesting reg number, R380 NGO (R3 BONGO) is the original number of the car and is included.
The interior genuinely looks like it did the day in left the factory. This is helped by having black leather seats,which wear well and and are scuff and rip free with minimal creasing and no sagging! The carpets are all in excellent condition. There are overmats fitted but the original carpets in the front are not damp or rotten which proves the car does not leak. Inside. Everything inside works perfectly with the exception of the cigarette lighter but I have a new one included in the sale as I just haven"t got around to fitting it yet. The car comes with both original keys, alarm fobs and immobiliser keys.
The engine bay is very tidy and clean compared with most I"ve seen and there are no visible leaks whatsoever. The chassis is original but has been painted and waxoyled every couple of years (last time in 2015) so there is no corrosion to worry about. The boot is as new.
The car has a complete and documented service history, always from main dealers or TVR specialists. The service book (with receipts to support) has 17 (plus PDI) service stamps and has been serviced every year rather than at 6k intervals. The car currently needs an annual service and is booked in on 21st Sept. If the car sells for the full asking price in advance I will pay for the service. The history file with the car is amazing. Included is the original build sheet, ownership history, every receipt, every MOT and a number of old tax discs. Also included are press cutting featuring the car, original sales brochure and a copy of "the Chimaera bible" by Steve Heath.
