vehicle description:
TVR TAMORA 3.6L Speed Six
For sale is my TVR TAMORA Speed Six. This is a reluctant
sale, and is purely driven by the fact that I have to many toys, with three
cars and five motorbikes, it is time to get a grip of reality, so I am told!!!
I purchased this car after selling my Griffith in early
2014. I did a lot of research before purchasing this car, as I wanted something
that was mechanically sound with the usual issues sorted. I found this car
locally which, and whilst it was a CAT D back in 2002, which to be honest
didn’t worry me and should worry any potential purchaser (I have owned over 5
CAT D Vehicles in my time), it ticked the boxes that I wanted.
The car has just under 27,000 miles on the
clock and has been looked after locally by Dave Batty at ‘The Garage’ for the
last five years or so. If you want an independent view of the car, please feel
free to contact Dave, who is a most excellent TVR specialist and a damn fine
chap to have looking after your car.
The engine is in A1 condition. It is always warmed up and
never taken above 3k revs until the oil reaches 50C and above. The engine was
rebuilt in August 2012 at 16736 Miles. At this point the engine and box were
removed from the car and the head was completely replaced. The total cost of
the work was just under £6500. The head wasn’t any old head replacement, it was
supplied by rndengineering (www.rndengineering.co.uk)
who are reckoned to be one of the authorities ion the business when it comes to
Speed 6 engines.
The details of the head are as follows:
Fully Ported Stage 2 Head (Number SP6-229-TA)
Inlet and Exhaust fully ported
GT Inlet Valves 8mm stem 40.5mm 214n Stainless
GT Exhaust Valves 8mm Stem 32.5mm 215n Stainless
GT custom valve springs
Oil feed to back of Exhaust side
24 x Melling design finger followers 260 degree
oiling
Pair of GTS specification chilled iron cams
profiled by Kent Fully assembled
Whilst the head was build and supplied by rndengineering,
all strip down and rebuild work was undertaken by Dave Batty at The Garage. At
the same time the clutch pack was replaced as well
As soon as I purchased the car, I had Dave Batty conduct a
12000 mile service and any work that was required to support that. This was
done in May 2014 at 22797 Miles. During this service, the following work was
conducted:
12000 Mile Service
New Rear tyres
New Front Brake Discs
New Front Brake Pads
I have just has the 6000 Mile service undertaken by Dave Batty,
where the engine mount was replaced, which is a part that commonly wears out
due to the heat from the Cats.
The car has 18” spiders fitted to it with Toyo tyres all
round. It has also got Racing Green Sports exhausts fitted which makes the car
sound fantastic.
The car has a couple of cosmetic areas that are not perfect,
however did not worry me too much, as they didn’t detract from the driveability
and reliability of the car. The black paint that is applied inside the
headlight areas of the bodywork, is cracking and coming adrift. Again this is a
common issue, especially if the paint was applied to thick at the time of
application. This is a relatively simple fix, and one that I was going to do
myself if keeping the car.
There are also a couple of blemishes on the paintwork where
the paint shows signs of slight cracking. The body work however is in good
condition otherwise. There are some small areas of paint shipping on the Spider
wheels and again if I was keeping I would have had these refurbished. (About
£250 per set). There is also a small area where the rear plastic window has
come away from the mohair material. I was quoted some time ago £250 to repair.
The interior of the car is an alacantara finish (I think),
as opposed to straight leather (Although seats are Black Leather) which after
time looks a little tatty. Again, nothing wrong as the car is 13 years old, bur
personnel preference would be to have this re-detailed.
All in all, this is a reluctant sale of an excellent car
that has had all the mechanical issues sorted over the last 3 years, making
this an excellent drivers car. Dave Batty commented when I picked up the car
several weeks ago, what a pleasure the car was to drive. As stated above, the
Car was a Category D back in 2002, thus the value and thus asking selling price
for the car will reflect this.
I am happy to show the car to any potentially interested
buyer, however please do not waste my time, as its valuable. I spend a large
proportion of the working week abroad, so can only accommodate at the weekends
and have a million and one things to do. I am happy to take anyone out in the
car, however no test drives will be allowed for obvious reasons.
