Released in 1967, the Elan +2 was introduced to a hungry motoring public who craved the long distance versatility of a Grand Touring Coupé coupled to the established Elan"s fantastic performance and road-holding.
Lotus stretched the existing Elan"s wheelbase by twelve inches and added twenty-four inches to the overall length balancing things up by making the car 10 inches wider. The result was a superbly balanced coupé which made no compromises when compared to it"s little sibling.
Using the technologically advanced DOHC development of Ford"s proven "Kent" engine found in the original Elan plus cutting-edge features such as all-round disc brakes, fully independent suspension and nimble rack and pinion steering, the Elan +2 took Lotus into a new sector by combining the lightweight agility and peppy performance of a sportscar and the luxury and comfort of a "GT".
With a production run from 1967-1975, just 5,200 Elan+2s were built, the most sought-after being the genuine 130/5 models which retain their original "Big Valve" engines and 5 speed gearboxes, which were basically an Elan Sprint for the family man!
This then provides a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine 130BHP "Big Valve" 5 Speed Lotus Elan+2 130/5, registered towards the end of production.
